"Source words" is the size of your site, counted once. "AI-translated words" is what the AI produces from it, so the same content multiplied by how many languages you publish. Both are bought once: nothing resets monthly, editing a page you already translated does not spend the allowance again, and words you write yourself are not charged against it at all.

Weglot gives far larger word allowances at the top of its range: 1,000,000 translated words on Advanced and 5,000,000 on Extended, against our 90,000 and 250,000. If your site is very large, that matters more than the language count and you should price both. Neither of us resets your word allowance monthly, and on both sides a word counts once no matter how many times you re-translate it.

Where Weglot is the better buy
Weglot has been doing this since 2016, it has thousands of reviews, and it has integrations and an enterprise support organisation that we do not. If you are a large team that needs a vendor with that track record, or you want translated URL slugs today, buy Weglot. We would rather tell you that here than have you find out after paying us.
If what you actually need is a handful of languages on a normal-sized site, live this week, we are dramatically cheaper, because you are not paying for a tier you only want for its language count.
Questions people ask before paying
Do my words reset every month?
No. You buy an allowance once and it stays, and editing a page you already translated does not spend it again because the charge for a string in a language is replaced rather than added. Weglot works the same way on this point, so treat any claim that they reset your words monthly with suspicion, including older versions of our own copy.
What is the difference between AI-translated words and source words?
Source words are the size of your site: every unique word we find on it, counted once. AI-translated words are the output, the same content multiplied by how many languages you publish. A 6,000-word site in 3 languages uses 6,000 source words and 18,000 AI-translated words. Words you edit or write yourself are not charged against the AI allowance.
What happens when I hit a limit?
New translations stop. Everything already translated keeps working and nothing is deleted. You either upgrade or free up room by removing languages or pages you do not need.
What happens to my translations if I cancel?
They stay in your account. The widget stops serving them while you have no active plan, and they become available again if you come back. You are not starting over.
Is there a free plan?
Yes, and it does not expire. The free plan covers 1 website, 2 languages and 5,000 source words, with no card required. It does not include hreflang tags, auto-crawl, or removing the WeLocale badge, which is what the paid plans add.
Do I need a developer?
No. You paste one script tag, or install the WordPress plugin. There are no DNS changes and no rebuild of your site.
