Weglot pricing explained
Three limits decide your bill, not one
Most people compare Weglot plans by the word count and then get surprised. The word count is only one of three meters. Here is the full table, read from their pricing page, and worked examples of which plan you actually end up on.
The three meters
- Translated words. Your content multiplied by the number of languages you publish. A 10,000-word site in three languages is 30,000 translated words, not 10,000.
- Language count. Tiered at 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20. This is the one that moves the bill most, because needing a sixth language jumps you from 79 euro to 299 euro even if your content is tiny.
- Translation requests per month. A traffic meter. Weglot describes it as calls from your site to their translation API, which is approximately your translated pageviews. This is the one nobody notices until it bites.

Worked examples
A 12,000-word site in 6 languages, 30,000 translated pageviews a month
Translated words come to 72,000, which fits Business. But six languages does not: Business allows three and Pro allows five. The first tier with six is Advanced, so the answer is 299 euro a month for a site whose content would fit a 29 euro plan. On our side that is ten languages and 120,000 translated words, so $15 .
An 8,000-word site in 3 languages, 80,000 translated pageviews a month
Words come to 24,000 and three languages fits Business at 29 euro. The traffic does not: Business allows 50,000 requests a month. Eighty thousand pageviews pushes you to Pro at 79 euro on the traffic meter alone. We do not meter traffic, so this is still $15 .
A 500,000-word site in 5 languages
Translated words come to 2,500,000. Five languages fits Pro, but the words do not, and Advanced's million is not enough either, so this is Extended at 699 euro . On our side it is not possible at all: our top plan covers 400,000 source words and 2,000,000 translated words. For a site this size Weglot is the right answer and we are not in the running.
Two settings worth checking before you buy
Auto-upgrade. Their FAQ says that with the auto-upgrade feature enabled they will move your account to the next plan automatically based on usage, so service is not interrupted. That is genuinely useful if uptime matters more than the invoice. It also means the step from 79 euro to 299 euro can happen without you approving it, so decide deliberately rather than leaving the default.
What happens after the trial. Under 2,000 words you drop onto their free plan automatically, with one language. Over 2,000 words, translation stops until you upgrade.
Credit where it is due on upgrades: their FAQ says you only pay the difference for the remainder of the billing period, which is the fair way to do it.
How we price instead
Two meters, not three. Source words, which is the size of your site counted once, and translated words, which is that content across your languages. Languages are not tiered separately, and we do not meter your traffic at all. There is no pageview allowance to run out of. We do run ordinary abuse protection on the API, but it is not a billing limit and it does not scale with your plan.
The honest limitation is the ceiling. Our largest plan stops at 400,000 source words and 2,000,000 translated words. Above that, Weglot's Extended and Enterprise tiers exist and ours do not.

Words are bought once. Nothing resets monthly, and editing a page you already translated does not spend your allowance again, so "translated words" means how much translated content you have, not how much you have ever generated.
Questions people ask
Why is Weglot so expensive for me?
Almost always because of one of two limits rather than the word count people expect. Either you need more languages than your tier allows, since languages are tiered at 1, 3, 5, 10 and 20, or you have passed the translated-pageview limit, which is 20,000 a month on Starter and 50,000 on Business. Both push you up a tier regardless of how little content you have.
What are Weglot's translation requests per month?
It is a traffic meter. Weglot describes it as the number of calls your site makes to their translation API in a month, which is approximately your translated pageviews. The allowances are 2,000 on Free, 20,000 on Starter, 50,000 on Business, 200,000 on Pro, 1,000,000 on Advanced and 5,000,000 on Extended. A site with modest traffic but few words can hit this before it hits the word limit.
Does Weglot upgrade my plan automatically?
It can. Their pricing FAQ says that if the auto-upgrade feature is enabled they will automatically move your account to the next plan based on usage so service is not interrupted. That is convenient, and it also means a bill can move from 79 euro to 299 euro without you approving it. Check the setting.
What happens after the Weglot free trial?
Their FAQ says that if your project has under 2,000 words you drop onto the free plan automatically with one language and limited support. If you have more than 2,000 words, translation stops until you upgrade.
Is Weglot billed in euros?
Yes. Their FAQ states all standard plans are priced and charged in euros, and VAT is excluded from the listed prices. If your card is in another currency your bank converts it and may add a fee.
Is WeLocale always cheaper than Weglot?
No. If your site is very large we cannot serve it at all: our top plan covers 400,000 source words and 2,000,000 translated words, so a 500,000-word site in five languages is outside our range and inside their Extended plan. For normal-sized sites that need several languages we are dramatically cheaper, because we do not tier by language count and we do not meter your traffic.
